بعد استخدام مواد التنظيف قد تظل روائح المذيبات عالقة داخل صندوق الترطيب، ويجب أن يراعى أن مواد التنظيف يجب أن يقتصر استخدامها داخل صندوق الترطيب على الحالات الطارئة فقط. وللتخلص من الرائحة يمكن للمرء أن يجرب التالي:
أولا، يجب أن يتم فتح صندوق الترطيب وتهويته جيدا.
وإذا لم يساعد ذلك ولم تختف الرائحة في خلال عدة أيام يمكن للمرء أن يضع زجاجة من الويسكي أو البراندي داخل صندوق الترطيب المغلق. تحذير: سوف يؤثر ذلك على نكهة صندوق الترطيب لفترة طويلة! وقد يضيف بعض الهواة قصدا عدة نقاط من الويسكي أو البراندي لسائل المرطب لتحسين نكهة السيجار.
